As of 2026, L&I is requiring Stay at Work applications to be submitted online. This process can be difficult and time consuming. But don’t fret! Aspire is here to help! Stay at Work is a financial incentive for employers to get injured workers back to work quickly and safely.
What does L&I cover?
As an incentive to providing light duty to injured workers L&I will cover wages and equipment; however, the amount of money you receive depends on the date of the injury. If the worker was injured before 2025, L&I will cover 50% of the workers' wages for up to 66 working days for a maximum of $10,000. After 2025, L&I will cover 50% or 120 working days for a maximum of $25,000.
Additionally, L&I will cover tools, equipment, training, and clothing. For a claim prior to 2025, L&I will cover up to $2,500 for tools and equipment, up to $1,000 for training, and $400 for clothing. After 2025, theamount increases to $5,000, $2,000, and $1,000 for the respective categories.
For these expenses to be covered, they must be necessary to do the job, and they must be purchased on or after the date of the light duty job offer. For the wages to be covered, you must apply within 1 year of the date of the injury. This does not include sick, vacation pay, tips, commissions, or bonuses but may include overtime or shift differentials. Training may include online training, community college courses, books, supplies, or tuition.
