Intro to Workers Compensation

Are you new to Washington Workers Compensation or just need a refresher on how the state insurance system works? This training may be for you. Learn the basics of the Washington state workers comp system and why it’s considered a monopolistic system. Gain insight on the importance of reporting work-related incidents, what constitutes a claim, which claims matter, and why having light duty options is so important. Discover the benefits of retrospective rating and the “stay at work” program offered by L&I that can help save you money on the premiums you pay. Finally learn what options you have as an employer to stop fraudulent or long-standing claims that may be affecting your bottom line. 

OSHA 300

A comprehensive training regarding OSHA 300 documentation.  The following topics are covered:

  • A thorough review of OSHA forms 301, 300, and 300A and their requirements

  • How to determine which incidents are recordable and which should not be logged.  

  • How to fill out the 300 log and 300A summary with examples and discussion on the common mistakes that are made.

  • How the metrics generated from these documents are used to calculate a company’s incident rates.  

In addition, you’ll learn L&I Reporting requirements for certain “serious” injuries as well as quickly recap the definition and the severity of claim suppression.

Hiring Practices

“Don’t hire your next claim!”  This is the beginning of your on-boarding process.  This course will review best practices that you can take to minimize bringing in a risky individual into your organization.  Additionally, we’ll cover the benefits of requiring a complete work history, how to conduct background checks, the importance of verifying employee eligibility, and your options with pre-employment physicals.

Worker's Compensation Financial Impact

This course tackles how Worker’s Compensation claims and the costs associated with these claims can have both a direct and indirect impact on your bottom line.  We take an in-depth review on your Experience Modification Rate (EMR) and how this determines the insurance premiums you pay as well as the positive and negative impacts it can have on your business. Finally, we address the systems and tools you can implement to improve your EMR and add to your bottom line.

Substance Abuse Programs

Did you know that one-third of all incidents on construction jobsites are drug or alcohol related?  Companies with a comprehensive substance abuse program in place are more than 60% safer than those without an implemented program.  This training will discuss the 3 components of a strong program:

  • Drug and alcohol Testing and the different levels you should be implementing.

  • A Policy with strict rules regarding drug and alcohol use, supervisor training, and active enforcement.

  • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that directs your workers to confidential resources with regards to substance abuse.

Safety Map

Safety Member Assistance Program.  A self-evaluation tool Aspire uses to improve performance in the construction industy.  The concepts of this program include leading indicators that have a significant effect on safety performance as well as systems and tools used to reduce negative impact once an accident occurs.  Having a strong safety program takes the leadership to transform the status quo and develop a CULTURE that truly believes that all incidents are preventable.  Topics covered include:
